7 Tips From Your Photographer
Things To Consider.
Time & Lots Of It
You have a thousand things on your mind, or to do, or to delegate. This feeling is overwhelming and makes you feel pressure, rushed and uncomfortable on your epic day. (You will want to feel none of that) So to help remove this stress, Here’s some advice:
Get as much done before the day of as you can.
Delegate, this one is the best one. Isn’t it also the reason you have a bridal party? Just sayin’.
Ask all the professionals you hire for their tips/time needed. This includes the photographer too. Maybe you’re considering a first look? Here’s some info to know if its right for you.
Leave yourself a little buffer in the getting ready timeline, if you’re ready early, it gives you a minute to breath, or have a relaxing drink before you walk down the aisle. If you fall behind, it leaves room for that too.
2. The Little Things Matter
I love to photograph all of the details, they really are the unique touches that showcase you and your personality as a bride. They are important because you wanted them there. So, I highly recommend having them out and showing them off.
Use your bouquets to decorate your getting ready space instead of leaving them in a hamper on the floor. Not only do they look gorgeous in your getting ready photos, but they hide some of the inevitable mess that happens when you’re getting ready.
Hang your dress up in the same space as your hair and makeup is happening. Yes it makes for a gorgeous photo on its own in an epic spot, but it makes for a better story if you have it in the background while getting ready.
Other details that matter are the shoes, rings, veil, invitations, special notes written to people who matter on the day of or anything special to you. - Just have these items out somewhere, decorating your space, I will find them.
3. Remove Unnecessary Clutter
Where you get ready doesn’t really matter. It could be your home, or a hotel but when a bunch of people arrive, they bring stuff. This stuff ends up everywhere. So I recommend trying to avoid this as much as possible.
Throw garbage away/recycle it.
If you’re done with it, put it away - makeup, clothes, shoes, anything. Get your wedding party involved in this too.
If you have a spare room to store everything in, this is the easiest way to do it. Get ready in the room with windows if you can. It makes for the most epic shots.
4. Tell Us About It
If you have something significant to you, we want to hear about it. The more we know, the better. We can watch for moments, details, anything you mentioned.
Family members who mean a lot to you, or guests who travelled from very far away.
Secret choreographed dances.
Groomsman who are busting out some fancy dance moves down the aisle.
Of course, the obvious, family photo lists that I will assist to curate and organize.
5. Light
This is something that you may or may not even think about. I wouldn’t expect you to. But, when you are choosing all the details from getting ready, to dinner, speeches and dancing, this matters.
If there’s a choice, choose any room with windows. Always.
Consider the time of day when planning. On a hot day, if you can stand in the shade because you planned around the sun, perfect!
Sunset photos? They’re epic, but you have to plan dinner and speeches to allow the right time for them.
6. Where We Sit, Matters
There is only 1 time of the day that I have the opportunity to sit and it’s spotty at that. During dinner. It really is a big deal if my whole meal is still warm by the time I finish it. I jump up and down to capture speeches, games, kisses and anything else that might happen during dinner. So Where I sit really does matter. Tips for where to stick me:
Central location to help make sure I don’t miss anything
With your guests, I really do get along with everyone
Anyplace with a good view
7. Laughter, Fun, Epic Time!
Your wedding day will go by so fast! You will be busy talking to your guests, partying with your wedding party, getting your photos taken and enjoying your new partner. So Enjoy every single minute of it.
To help you enjoy your day, don’t sweat the small stuff.
Trust your hired professionals. Professionals being the key word. If you have an experienced photographer, you can sit back and count on them to document your day, helping to lock in those memories.
Trust your family and friends.
Breathe it in, every moment and look forward to the photos that you know are coming and can enjoy for years to come!
